On Sunday night, a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot in southeast Oklahoma City, marking the city’s 11th homicide of the year.

The incident occurred at an apartment complex near Southeast 46th Street and South Sunnylane Road. ​

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on March 9, 2025, Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) officers responded to reports of gunfire at the aforementioned location.

Upon arrival, they discovered 16-year-old Jashaun Cheatom lying in a breezeway just outside an apartment door, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Paramedics provided immediate medical attention before transporting him to OU Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. ​

Residents of the apartment complex expressed shock and concern over the incident. Lonnie Walker, a nearby resident, remarked, “That’s very disturbing to hear about a child being killed like that.”

Walker noted that while she hadn’t heard the gunshots that evening, she had reported concerns about safety and inadequate lighting in the area to property management in the past. ​
